Hello Friends – here are some photos from Kwasi’s recent Kente weaving workshop at the Roots Charter School in Washington, D.C., as well as pictures from another workshop Kwasi did at Calverton School, in Huntington, Maryland. As you can see, children respond very well when they can experience their own creativity working with Kente! Working with a Kente loom is a great way to get people of all ages to step away from computer screens and smart phones and experience mental and emotional balance by exercising one’s creative, artistic right brain faculties. In these workshops it is exciting to watch children’s eyes start to light up as they witness their own designs come to life – they also feel a sense of pride, empowerment and self-esteem.

On May 5-8, 2022, Kwasi will be in Pontiac, Michigan, at the Pontiac Arts Center, putting on a special Kente weekend event and workshop for people of all ages. The first evening will include a dinner and a special presentation that Kwasi will make on the history and culture of Kente weaving. In the following days, Kwasi will conduct two hands-on workshops, teaching adults and kids how to make their own Kente creations on the small loom.

As the school year is winding to a close, Kwasi is available to organize his special workshops for schools, churches and community organizations. Kwasi would like as many people as possible –of all ages and backgrounds – to experience the joy of creating their own Kente cloth. Kwasi’s workshops are always friendly, inspiring and uplifting – so please don’t hesitate to contact Kwasi to discuss how we can organize a special educational event that is perfect for your school, church or community group!
