Hello Friends –
We hope you have been keeping warm and in good spirits during this winter season. This past weekend Kwasi did a virtual presentation and educational workshop on the history and background of Kente weaving and its cultural evolution in our modern era for the Pontiac Center of Arts and Culture in Pontiac, Michigan. The online multimedia presentation went very well and Kwasi will also be traveling to Michigan to do an in-person, live presentation and workshop on May 5-8, 2022 at the Pontiac Center.
If you have a church, school or community organization that is interested in learning about the history and culture of Kente weaving, Kwasi has a series of both online and live presentations and workshops that can be adapted for your needs! Please reach out to us and let’s talk about your church, school or community organization and how we can work together to educate communities about the beautiful tradition of Kente weaving and Kente’s impact on our modern world. Kwasi has developed his own small Kente loom which allows him to teach Kente weaving to individuals and small groups both in live workshops and through his online CourseCraft program. He also has his multimedia program on Kente and Kwasi does special presentations with demonstrations on his large Kente traditional loom. Over the last 2-3 years – especially during the pandemic – Kwasi has been focused on developing various live and online options to create opportunities people of all ages and backgrounds to learn about Kente cloth and Kente weaving.
During this pandemic, Kente weaving is an excellent craft activity for the individuals, families and loved ones. Watching your Kente design unfold on your own small loom is a wonderful way to express your creativity and to relieve stress, anxiety and tension. Kente weaving allows you to unplug from technology and the constant buzz and stimulation of computer screens and to become absorbed in a beautiful Zen-like state of peace and harmony.
On Saturday, February 26, from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm, Kwasi will be holding a workshop for adults at the Roots Charter School, 15 Kennedy St. NW, Washington, DC, 20011, in the Multipurpose Room. The cost for the course is $25. Please join us, if you can! Kwasi may be conducting another workshop through the Roots Charter School within the next few weeks, so let us know if you’re interested and watch this space!
