Hello Friends – as time changes with the Winter Solstice, the holiday season and the beginning of a New Year, master weaver Kwasi Asare is conducting a special holiday Kente weaving workshop at Sankofa in Washington, DC. The workshop will be held on Sunday, December 22, at Sankofa Video, Books & Cafe, 2714 Georgia Ave. NW, from 11 am until 2 pm. To purchase tickets, visit: https://www.sankofa.com/events/kente-weaving-workshop-1
As always, Kwasi Asare’s workshop promises to be a wonderful experience. All ages are welcome, as anyone from 8 to 80 – or even older – can experience the joy of watching their own creative designs come to life on Kwasi’s specially designed small handloom. The final product of your Kente handloom is a beautiful, handwoven bookmark or bracelet that also can be a nice Christmas or Kwanzaa gift.
Kwasi will also have a selection of Kente shawls, stoles, scarves, bow ties and other items for sale. This is a great time to pick up Christmas and Kwanzaa gifts for friends, family members and loved ones. Authentic, handwoven Kente cloth is one of the best ways to honor and celebrate your connection with your Ancestors and the Motherland of Africa. Kente is Africa’s finest and most popular African fabric.
Enjoy this holiday season and have a Merry Christmas and a blessed, joyous Kwanzaa – we look forward to seeing you at Sankofa!
