Once again, a long, eventful year is coming to close, as we move into the December the holiday season for 2023 and the transition to a New Year!
This has been a phenomenal year for Kwasi Asare, as he had a wonderfully successful summer with his booth at the Colorado Black Arts Festival and subsequent appearances at Brother Jeff’s Cultural Center in Denver. Kwasi brought his large loom, and hundreds of people watched his live demonstrations of the art of traditional Kente cloth weaving. The community’s response was fantastic! Many people were fascinated and at first did not understand what makes handmade Kente cloth Africa’s most beautiful and vibrant fabric. But once they were able to witness Kwasi working his traditional craft and see the spectacular energy and radiance of true authentic Kente cloth, sales skyrocketed! Kwasi sold large amounts of stock and several beautiful art pieces. Kwasi also did weaving demonstrations at Brother Jeff’s Cultural Center and had a number of inquiries from vendors, designers and people interested in cultural aspects of Kente. Furthermore, Kwasi took a seminal trip up to see the Winter Park Jazz Festival – and we are now currently making plans to for Kwasi to return to Colorado in July 2024 for BOTH the Colorado Black Arts Festival and the Winter Park Jazz Festival!
Kwasi is always motivated for putting on special events, live demonstrations and educational workshops for schools, churches and community groups. Kente cloth demonstrations are always engaging and an enlightening experience for participants of all ages, ranging from 8 to 80 years old. Kwasi’s unique small loom is a great opportunity for people of different ages to enjoy the experience of creating their own Kente cloth. Please reach out to us if you would like your school, church or community group to work with Kwasi.
We hope and trust all of you had a creative, joyful and productive year in 2023. As always, Kente cloth is one of the most beautiful, symbolic and meaningful gifts you can give someone during the holiday season. As Africa’s most renowned fabric, authentic Kente cloth represents a true connection with the Motherland and our Ancestors. Whether someone might finishing elementary or middle school, graduating from high school, college or graduate school, or making some kind of personal or professional change or growth in their lives, Kente cloth is symbolic of our protection and unbreakable spiritual connection with the Ancestors. Kente cloth is also the ultimate Kwanzaa gift!
